*Gender identity is not the same as gender expression. Gender identity refers to the personal sense of someone’s own gender. Gender expression refers to the way someone presents their gender with mannerisms or appearance that are typically associated with gender (e.g. clothes, makeup, way of talking). Sometimes gender identity and gender expression line up. Other times, if someone is gender non-conforming, they may express their gender in a different way then what is typically associated with it. *Researching this topic, there is a phenomenon on social media where people (mostly girls and other afab folks who) express envy towards men that express themselves femininely, for example men or masculine folks who wear dresses, makeup or nail polish.
